If you are recruiting people for your business then you must understand that one of the most important aspects of recruitment is that you that you wish to hire using a thorough review of their background. There is no excuse for failing to do this as there are many companies that offer the service for low cost, many even offer a refund if you aren’t satisfied. A background check is about far more than simply typing the person’s name into Google, it is a full and through check on everything that the person has done in the past. Failure to do this could have dangerous ramifications for you and.or your business, and here are just a few examples.
Hiring criminals will always be down to company policy but surely you must know that you are hiring a criminal from the word go. Let’s imagine that you hire someone that you didn’t know had previously committed a heinous crime, worse than you would like to look past in terms of hiring someone. Now if you had no idea about this and it comes out at a later date that this person has an awful history, it can bring both you and the company into disrepute.
If you are hiring for people to drive a company vehicle then you will also wish to know whether or not they have a solid and clean license. Now if someone does not have a clean license they may not wish to disclose this to you during the application process. Assuming that you do not carry out a background check on the person and they get the job, you could easily be endangering the lives of other road users if the person you have hired does in fact have a license filled with points or convictions. Imagine the fall out if that person was to have an accident which involved people getting hurt.
Believe it or not there are many companies out there that will send candidates to rival firms to try and commit corporate espionage, the theft of details and important information from your business. This can of course be difficult to spot from the outset but a background check will give you some insight to where they have worked in the past and what their criminal history may be.
The examples above may be extreme but even at the lower end of the scale, failing to perform a background check could result in you hiring someone who does not have integrity and who does not match up to what you expect from a recruit. Let’s say that they have lied about their education and work experience, you could easily have hired someone with zero skills if you have not performed a background check properly.
Make sure that before you hire anybody for your business that you have first carried out a detailed background check. If you are using a 3rd party to complete the check then check the BBB website for recommended providers.
