How to Survive in the World of Business

The business world is tough, it is highly competitive, fierce and in order to be a success you need to be made of a certain type of stuff. There were more businesses registered last year alone than ever before and this year looks set to be the same again. The reason for this is because everyone has now seen so many people who have taken their great idea and turned it into a money making venture, and they wish to do the same. Unfortunately, there is a flip side to this and that is that more than 50% of new businesses fail within their first three years. A sad fact but an example of just how tough this world can be.

 

I watched a great seminar with the highly knowledgable Robert Stefanowski recently when he was lecturing at Cambridge University. He talked about surviving in the world of business and if you think that it is for you then here is what you need to do to survive.

 

Be Persistent

 

One of the key characteristics which you will need to have in order to be successful in any business that you work in is persistence. Whether you are pitching your idea to investors, selling your product to customers or trying to gain a foothold in your industry, you need to be tenacious and not take no for an answer.

 

Resilient

 

You will fail in business at one time or another and the key to real success is being able to learn form the mistakes and go again. Almost every successful businessman and woman that you speak to will tell you that in at least one moment throughout their business career, they made a mistake and fell flat on their face, it goes with the territory and if you want to be a success then you need to have the resilience to dust yourself down and keep pushing.

 

Forward Thinking

 

As part of a business you need to be always thinking about the next step, the next move for your business and how you can find new ways of doing things, new markets to exploit and how you can best plan for growth. The other reason that you need to be a forward thinker is that you need to be fully prepared for what  the future might hold in store for you, good or bad. The best in business are those who are always looking to the future.

 

Create a Network

 

All great business leaders have a strong network or people both in and out of the business whom they can rely on to offer them advice, do deals with them, promote their brand or do them  favor when it is required. Throughout your business career it is vital that you build and maintain strong relationships in order to create a solid support network which will help to propel you and your business to the next level.
