There are two things Mandela did and said, both very controversial at the time, that, to me, really defined his true leadership.

The first was when he set up the Truth Commission, with the intention of having former foes tell the truth about everything that happened, with the caveat that those who owned up to what occurred would suffer no wrath or criminal charges. Bold stroke of genius if you ask me.

The other was when he decided to speak to Fidel Castro, and the United States wasn't happy about it, and he went public with it, saying "Your enemies are not necessarily my enemies." That took courage, because it had the possibility of jeopardizing all the goodwill that he'd generated with the United States over the years, but he was absolutely right in saying it, because even Canada has flights to Cuba.

Mandela really understood what leadership was all about.

Very nice lessons of Mandela.

In any business or politics or even in life these lessons are all applicable.

Larry Ellison when having a public speaking engagement all the time wears an Armani suite because he knows appearance matters.

Competing businesses like that of Bill and Paul and Steve at the end of the day I guess the three knew each other way better than others.
